God Bless America

God Bless America and God Bless this Home. (I think this flag blew over from Mom's house on the 4th. I love that someone put it on display)

Adding Character

It has been so exciting to see our house going up but up until this point it has just been the basic stuff. Slab, framing, plumbing etc. Now we are finally starting to add some character and I can see the little touches coming out that are going to make this house unique to us. We saw the trestles in the living room/dining room for the first time yesterday and are so excited about them. They really bring out the farmhouse look and make the room feel cozy.

The porch roof is finally done and the columns are in so our porch is no longer held up by toothpicks. Our builder is working on the railing and is modeling it after a historical home in downtown Ennis. The black shutters will be the last thing to go on the house so we will have to wait quite a while to get the full picture of the front of the house.

I had to sneak in a few of Brox. He is watching great-grandpa on the blue tractor in the distance.

Farmhouse Apron Front Sink

Just ordered my kitchen sink today! It is a 120 lb Fireclay sink from Italy. I was pretty impressed with myself for finding a great sink at half of the cost of the original one I was looking at. I ordered it from vintagetub.com and after receiving all of my bath hardware from them I cannot say enough good things about their customer service and the quality of their products. Everything I received was beautiful and extremely heavy.

Lots of progress!

The guys have made a ton of progress after being rained out for several days. It was so exciting to see at least 10 trucks parked on our land.

-roof shingles-done
-metal porch roof-almost done
-front porch paint-done (no more brown paint!)
-front porch floor paint-done
-plumbing-done
-electrical work-started!

Today they are adding the front porch columns and are putting up the trestles in the living room.

A Bed for Brox

I have been searching for the perfect toddler bed for Brox. I knew I wanted it to look old so I started the hunt for a Jenny Lind spindle bed but turns out they don't really exist anymore. The only one that I found was $700 from Land of Nod. For some reason I held off on ordering the bed and a week later I got a text from my cousin Taylor that she found an antique Jenny Lind for $200. We went to see it and walked away with a bed for $125 thanks to Mom's negotiation skills. I am soo excited to have such a beautiful old piece in Brox's room. I originally thought this would be the before picture and I would paint the bed high gloss black but as I was cleaning it yesterday I decided I love the old chipped paint look. So much character!

I want to make sure his room is perfect as soon as we move in to help make the transition easier.  Next on my list for his room is to make a tee-pee for his reading nook!

Haint Blue Porch

I am so excited about my haint blue from porch ceiling. It turned out exactly how I wanted it! So long bugs and ghosts:)

Decisions Decisions

I have known from start of this process that I wanted to paint my front porch ceiling haint blue.

"Once just an old Southern tradition, the blue porch ceiling has made its way north and is being introduced to new generations. There are numerous theories as to why – from fooling spiders and wasps into thinking the ceiling is the sky, to blue being a harbinger of good luck, to the color extending daylight, to scaring away evil spirits."

In addition to these fabulous reasons to paint the ceiling blue I just love how it looks. Who would of thought that there were so many options to choose from?! I thought haint blue was one color but it certainly is not. The painter needed a decision last night so I had to call in re-inforcements and have my mom come help me decide. I think we made a great choice. Stay tuned to see the final product tomorrow!

I am so glad they are finally starting to paint over the not so flattering brown color. The white looks great and I can't wait to see the full house painted and the black shutters added!

Master Bath

I ordered our master bath fixtures today. Exposed rainmaker shower, cast iron clawfoot tub and a British telephone clawfoot tub faucet. I did tons of research and finally found exactly what I wanted at vintagetub.com. I cannot wait to see what everything looks like in person. Reviews were excellent and customer service so far has been great. I will post another update once I actually receive the items.

Fireworks

After our Fourth of July party we walked over to the house and watched fireworks on the front porch. We could see fireworks every direction we looked from the front and back porch. One of our first memories in the new home:)

Outdoor Fireplace

I couldn't find what I wanted  for the outdoor fireplace so I decided to design it myself and gave this lovely picture to our builder:) Once its built I will post the two pictures side by side. Hopefully my vision looks good in real life.
