Brick and Sheetrock

 Saturday was an exciting day. There were about 10-15 people working on brick all day long. They went half way up all around the house in one day.

Sheetrock was finished last week and its really starting to come together inside. Its easier to picture it as our home now with our furniture and decorations. This will be my view if I am cooking at the kitchen island.

Fun in the Sand

 Toes in the water toes in the sand...

..oh wait, no water just sand for the brick layers that we have been hanging out in the past three evenings pretending like we are on vacation :)

We started out very carefully playing on the edge of the sand

then said screw it got all up up in it! Brox brings his tractors and me and Jordan bring our beer/wine and lawn chairs and we have ourselves a mini trip to the beach. I am ready for the brick to be done but will be sad when our fun pile of sand is gone.

Treasures from Waxahachie

We had such a successful shopping trip today and I can't think of anyone else I would have rather shopped with other than Mom and Brox (sorry Jordan your just not that fun to shop with).

We found some great stuff for Brox's room at Crooked Creek Farms. They had some adorable treasures at really good prices. We got a vintage school desk chair, pillow and sign. The sign is perfect considering the name of his blog and the song in his 1 year video. For me finding pieces with meaning no matter how mismatched they are is the key to loving your home.

 I have been searching for the perfect chalkboard sign to use to display the menu at Brox's 2nd birthday bash. I was about to order one online but I am so glad I didn't since I found this gem at The Dove's Nest.  I can already think of so many other uses for it like displaying holiday messages on our front porch. (now I just need to find someone with good handwriting to write on it)

Last but not least. I am a bit obsessed with Southern Living. My mom has subscribed to their magazine forever so I remember tearing house idea pics out of them as a young girl. I found some of these pictures recently and it amazes me how classic everything in their magazine is. I still loved everything about them!  Just goes to show that southern charm never goes out of style.

Mom has tons of these cookbooks and now I have three of my own from an antique store for $1 each! (I also mailed in the card from mom's magazine to re-join their cookbook club. Hope she doesn't mind her new membership:)

More great purchases

I found this great vintage drying rack on easy. I realize that I may only be able to hang one shirt or a napkin on it to dry but its super cute! Cuteness won over practicality in this case.

Another great find from the Ennis Auction house. Solid wood antique barley twist table to use for our breakfast nook table.

I wanted to get some shots of the new front raining and Jordan took this opportunity to do a mini photo shoot. I love his poses!

Insulation

We are on day 1 of 4 for spray foam insulation then we will move onto sheet rocking. Our little helper came to the house with us to sweep up the mess.

Box Takeover

This is what my mom's entryway and dining room look like. Sinks, chandeliers, plumbing fixtures etc.
I wonder if she is counting down the days until we move yet:)

Floors Floors Floors

We got a lot accomplished this weekend. I met with the designer at the flooring company to pick out and view samples and we approved all of our trim work.

We are doing hardwoods throughout the main part of the house and are going with very traditional hexagon tiles in Brox's bathroom and upstairs bathroom, black and white checkered tile run on the diagonal in the mudroom/powder bath and carpet upstairs. Hoping to see some additional samples for our master bath next week.

Cabinets Galore

I have spent the last few weeks designing the cabinet layout for every room in the house. Mom was a huge help and we basically sketched out every wall in the house and included supporting pictures from Pinterest. Both my builder and cabinet designer said they had never seen so much detail. What can I say, I know exactly what I want. Jordan just doesn't understand the process but I will sure be happy when I have all the little things I have been excited about like vented drawers in the pantry for produce and rods for paper and ribbon in the mudroom/craftroom!

Kolache Baking Lessons

Last Saturday we took a break from house planning and walked over to Grandma's house to get a kolache baking lesson. I have been wanting her to teach me for years but just never found the time when we lived in Dallas. We made two batches and I am so excited to try on my own and see if I can get them to taste as good as hers. Such a fun memory with Grandma, Mom and sweet little Brox who cleaned up after us:)
