More Framing

Loving the wide entryway and staircase!

View from the second floor game room.

 Hi Brox!

Everyday we go out to the house and see something new. We have a second floor, walls and a partial roof! So exciting.

Grandparent's Garden

It's been many years since I have been in Ennis to help my grandparent's pick cucumbers daily for pickling so we were so excited to walk over today to help out! On Sunday at lunch everyone was talking about how bad snakes are this year and how you shouldn't wear flip flops because they are attracted to heat and will bite your feet. So what do I do? Bust out my hunter wellies with my swim suit and cover up on. Brox is in a tank top and camo hat and has a newfound love of tractors.

I think we are re-adapting to country life quite well!

Helping great-grandma wash cucumbers. And by helping he took the clean cucumbers and dropped them back into the washing bucket.

Vertical Progress

Finally some vertical progress! We have spent the last month watching the foundation being prepared and now there is something more interesting to watch. We go into the house at least twice a day and talk about ideas, where furniture is going to go and check out our views from every location in the house.

Barn Metal Ceiling

We found a cool old piece of metal in Grandpa's barn that we wanted to incorporate in the house somewhere. Belinda and Sherry gave me the great idea to put it on the ceiling in the powder bath which I think will give it an interesting farm/country look without being over the top. I am going for a farm house look with a modern flare, not total howdy doody!

We have a slab!

We have a slab! Our builder told us they would be here at 5 a.m to start pouring so sure enough I pop out of bed a few minutes after 5:00 to see about 12 vehicles out on our land and 4 cement trucks. By the time I got home it was done and lumber was laid out to start framing tomorrow.

Brox had a blast running round and jumping off the huge 1 inch step to our patio:)

Canton and Ennis Auction House

In my efforts to make our new house look old I have been scouring for items that will really help with the farm house charm. I had a lot of success this week in Canton with mom and at the monthly auction at the Ennis Auction house. I am hoping by the time our house is finished I will have built up a stash of items to get me started with decorating. I know it will take many years to finish decorating but at least this is a start!

Red wing crock (apparently a huge collectors item since it has the marking on it.) Going to use the large one for rolling pins and other larger kitchen things and the smaller one for wooden utensils.

Fun grain sack to either hang on the wall or throw over an outdoor table.

This is one of my best finds. I bought two of these lights (made from old chicken feeders) to hang above my kitchen island.

Great little side table from the auction.
 Old clock for the mantel.
Antique poppy seed grinder for kitchen decor.

Plumbing

We have plumbing. The guys finished up the plumbing and connected the water meter on Saturday. Minor panic attack when I thought my claw-foot tub was plumbed in my closet but turns out its not. Hoping the slab comes soon!
