Fresh from the garden

We walked over to grandma and grandpa's house these evening for a visit on the back porch and came home with potatoes, squash, onion, lettuce and dill straight from their garden. Oh and of course Brox came home with some cookies. Great-grandma can't let him leave without a special treat.

Looking forward to our next trip to the garden.

Loving the country. Loving family.Feeling very blessed.

Inspiration House

Our inspiration house.

Welcoming. Charming. Friendly. Classic. Southern.

These words are the "theme" of our home. If I can accomplish all of these in my design I will be happy.

Door Knobs!

I am soo excited to have found these original, antique glass doorknobs with brass back-plates. There are plenty of companies that have re-created this type of knob, but there is something about an original that you just can't beat. I found an awesome antique collector online and bought 1 knob so I could have our builder confirm they would work on our doors. He gave me the green light and I put in the order for 12 sets.

I love little details like this that will give our house some old flare and charm. They even come with skeleton keys!

Delayed

We broke ground on tuesday and the guys got in two full days of work on the foundation then were put on hold the remainder of the week due to the bad weather Wednesday night.

I must say I am not disappointed at all that we are already delayed during week 1. I look at these pictures of downtown Ennis, only several miles away from where we live and I just feel blessed that my family is safe and no one was hurt.

I know my town will rebuild and it will look like historic Ennis again soon but it is both heartbreaking and scary to think about what could have happened.

A lot of people, including Jordan, thought I was silly for wanting a safe room in our new house. I know for a fact after Jordan was on duty Wednesday night and heard on the radio that a tornado was coming straight for me and Brox that he is definitely on board with the safe room. I am already thinking about how I can make it cute and comfortable. Big fun pillows, blankets, a little shelf for water, a flashlight and some toys for B. Yes leave it to me to want to make a safe room cute:)

Anyways, hopefully we will get back on track with our house Monday and hopefully our little town will continue to rebuild.

God is good.

Officially Broke Ground!

It's official, we closed on our construction loan today and officially broke ground. Doherty Brothers were out at our house bright and early and I ran to the window like a kid on Christmas when I heard their trucks pull in the drive. They scraped the land and started bringing in the dirt to raise it up.

We had breakfast then took B outside to watch all of the action. I saw a dump truck at the store and had to get him one to play with so he could do what the big trucks were doing. I also sent Jordan over to our land to get him a bucket of sand that he then proceeded to dump all over his face. Had to throw in a pic of him with his dump truck:)

This evening we walked around the land with some wine to celebrate while Brox dug in the sand piles with his mini shovel.

Things are happening. Life is good.
